Bellyband harnesses the
organic and man-made worlds, the natural and artificial. Utilizing
the space within the groove that
encircles the gallerist Richard Heller's desk, I created panels covered
with the leather underside of fur pieces that have been industrially
stitched together. This veined veneer mimics the wood grain in its
appearance, as well as the contradictions that accompany its functionality
and symbolism - as a living entity altered and repurposed for "man-made" products
that hint at and create nostalgia for the natural world.
